Perspective is everything, and your perspective doesn’t shift on it’s own. You’re not going to just wake up one day and have new thoughts, or a new world-view, or a new opinion of yourself staring back in the mirror. It has to be contended for—intentionally.
Some of you have had the wrong perspective for decades. I know I certainly have in areas of my head and heart. There are absolutely ridiculous, false, unqualified things that I’ve allowed myself to believe (about me), resulting in fear, worry, apprehension, self-hatred…the nasty monster of a list goes on and on and on.
But what if that perspective can be changed?
What if you don’t have to live with the things about yourself that you’ve always hated?
What if there is a way to change your mind?
Graham Cooke is both a friend, a father, and a spiritual leader in my life. That’s putting it mildly—he’s absolutely changed everything about my life, how I live it, my perspective on God, who He really is, and who He’s made me to be.
I had the great privilege of being invited to speak a bit at his conference last year in California called ‘The Art of Thinking Brilliantly.’ (Isn’t that a brilliant title??!!). This clip was just too juicy not to share. And since today is ‘Whatever I Want to Blog Wednesdays,’ I had to post this story that he told us at the conference.
I know it will help shift your perspective, the same way it helped the entire auditorium of people.
YOUR TURN:
What is one area of your life today that needs a perception makeover?
Take a moment and think about your situation and what you believe about yourself in the middle of it. Are you thinking about it the way God thinks about it? Are you in agreement with Him, or are you in agreement with fear, inadequacy, apprehension and worry?
Ask God to show you what HE sees. Ask Him to invade your perception with His birds-eye view.
Write it down and CHOOSE to intentionally contend for that perception in your life.
